Exe estuary
The estuary of the River Exe is renowned nationally and beyond as a site of special scientific interest and an important habitat for wading and migrating birds.  It’s great for walking, boating and fishing and it’s right outside your window at Beach House!

Jurassic Coast
From Lympstone a brisk 30 minute walk along the Exe estuary will take you to England’s first natural World Heritage Site, stretching from Exmouth in East Devon to Old Harry Rocks in Dorset, which gives a unique insight into earth science.

Powderham Castle
Built over 600 years ago, Powderham is the historic home of the Earl of Devon. The Castle lies in a beautiful setting in an ancient deer park alongside the River Exe.  It has music and fireworks in the summer, which you can see and hear from Beach House.

Dartmoor
Heather-covered moorland and deep wooded gorges, beautiful lake-like reservoirs and tumbling rocky rivers, thriving market towns and villages, patchwork farmland and craggy granite tors, the Dartmoor National Park covers an area of 368 square miles - the largest, and wildest, area of open country in southern England, with loads of shaggy ponies.

Otterton Mill
Set beside the River Otter in one of Devon's most beautiful valleys and just a mile or so from East Devon's magnificent world heritage coast, Otterton Mill has a centuries old working water mill, a famous bakery and shop brim full of superb local produce, a fabulous restaurant serving food to die for and a gallery selling work from a selection of the best artists from Devon, Dorset and Somerset.  And they have live gigs there too.

Budleigh Salterton
Situated in the centre of a beautiful bay on the western side of the river Otter estuary, Budleigh Salterton is a tranquil town where you will find quality local shops.  The beach at Budleigh Salterton is a steeply shelving crescent of pebbles, overlooked at the western edge by high red cliffs. The beach is famous for its fat round pebbles - 'like buns or muffins'. Though the beach is quite steep, the swimming is safe - for those who require a sandy foreshore, a short walk westwards will bring them to the small sheltered beach at Littleham Cove. www.visitbudleigh.com

Darts Farm Village
Close to junction 30 of the M5 and only a few minutes’ drive from Beach House, Darts Farm Village is a high quality farm market. Old agricultural buildings have been converted into a superb food hall and cafe serving the best coffee for miles around.  Darts Farm Shopping Village specialises in home grown, organic and locally produced fruit and vegetables. The deli boasts over 100 different cheeses, many of which are from the West Country. There are home cooked meats, pates, smoked salmon, bread, pasties, pies and patisseries, chutneys, jams, honey, ice cream, chocolates and cakes. The resident butcher sells naturally fed, locally reared meat - Exmoor lambs, free range pigs and Devon beef. Drink-wise, there’s cider, apple juices, perries and over 100 different real ales. Yum!

Tarka Line
Take the train from Lympstone Station and make the most of the Tarka Line, which runs for 39 miles between Exeter and Barnstaple, following the gentle river valleys of the Yeo and Taw. From Eggesford to Barnstaple the line forms part of the Tarka Trail, a 180 mile long distance route tracing the journeys of 'Tarka the Otter' in Henry Williamson's classic novel.
